| Thanks to the efforts of everyone in the Sheridan learning community, we successfully achieved the Gold EcoSchools designation! This is a remarkable achievement. Special thanks to Mrs. Doyle for her leadership in this initiative, Mr. Ferreira for his outstanding support, Mrs. Newman, Mrs. Rowe and Mrs. McDaniel who acted as our parent representatives and all of the EcoMonitors who each took ownership and represented their class for at least a month this year. We look forward to continued success next year! |

Principal's Message
As you may have noticed, I never write a principal's message in the newsletter and certainly never in a flyer. I generally feel that you are more interested in reading about the events and learning opportunities that are a part of your children's school experience than my opinion about things. This time, though, I have some thoughts that I feel are important to share, so here goes...
It is with mixed feelings that I must tell you that I will be leaving Sheridan at the end of June. It has been my privilege and my pleasure to have been the principal of such a wonderful school for the past five years. One of the best things about Sheridan is the tremendous sense of community that you feel the minute you walk through the door. (People mention this to me all the time.) I will miss the wonderful students, staff and parents who make up this learning community and will remember you all with fondness. I leave feeling very proud of the many things we've accomplished together - the development of a school-wide home reading program, the collaborative, focused work of staff to help students learn in ways that are best for them, the development of audience skills in our students and the fostering of their appreciation of one another through our weekly CARE assemblies, the provision of a resource-rich environment in support of our students' literacy learning, the humble beginnings of our Walking School Bus initiative, our class trees that will be here for many decades, and our rapid climb to EcoSchools Gold certification!
On a related note, you may recall the research study I conducted last year as a part of my work toward achieving a Master of Education degree. At long last, I have completed the work and the degree was conferred earlier this month. Once again, this is an accomplishment of the whole community and I thank you so much for working with me to make it happen. The report is now available in the professional resource section of the library. If you'd like to have a look at it, please contact Mrs. Doyle who can assist you.
Evidently my services are needed at Oakwood Public School and so I will be there officially at the beginning of September. I am leaving you in good hands with Mrs. Louanne Henderson who comes to Sheridan from Brantwood Public School. I know that she will support the fantastic things that are already happening here and will help to make Sheridan an even better place than it is now. I'll be interested to know how you're all doing and I wish you all the best in the years to come.
Fondly,
Malerie Borbath Proud Principal of Sheridan

Other Changes
Three other valued members of the Sheridan staff will also be leaving at the end of June. • Ms. Jansz has been working with our 2/3 class in Mrs. Knapp's absence. It has been a pleasure to work with her. • Mme. Sidiropoulos will be at two schools in Burlington beginning in September. We wish her all the best. • Mrs. Dionisio is retiring !!!! After 30 years of service as an exceptional educator, she's off to do other fun things. She will be greatly missed. • Miss Roosevelt will be moving on to a full-time position at Palermo Public School. We extend our congratulations to her and although we will miss her, we wish her all the best at her new school.
